Welcome back Robins! I hope you had a lovely summer and enjoyed your time with friends and family. Heading into Autumn, we have an exciting term ahead!
History
This term in History, children will explore how toys have changed over time. They will compare their own toys with those from the past, learning about the materials used and how these link to our Science topic. Pupils will investigate how family traditions, Christmas gifts, technology, and film and TV have influenced toys, with a special focus on teddy bears, Lego, and Disney. Through discussions with older relatives, children will develop an understanding of similarities and differences across generations and how society has shaped the toys we enjoy today.
Science
This term in Science, children will learn about everyday materials such as wood, plastic, metal, glass, and fabric. They will explore what objects are made from, describe and compare their properties (e.g. shiny or dull, rough or smooth), and investigate how materials behave, such as being waterproof or absorbent. Pupils will also build their scientific skills through questions, observations, and simple investigations.
The KIRF (Key Instant Recall Fact) this term:
Year 1: Know all number bonds for 10
Year 2: Know all addition and subtraction facts for multiples of 10 to 100
If you wish to practise number bonds at home, the Top Marks game 'Hit the Button' is a fun, free online game that ensures children build fluency and speed in a range of mathematic skills.
Later on in the term, children will have access to the online platform TT Rockstars. Children in Robins will begin to explore times tables in preparation for upcoming learning. Once updated, their log in information will be found inside their yellow reading record.
English
This term Robins will be reading the story of Little Red Riding Hood. They will explore the role of conjunctions and how the accurately implement them in their own writing. By the end of this unit the children will write their own recount of walking through a forest and meeting a wolf! Later on in the term, we will explore the classic tale of Hansel and Gretel. The children will learn to use 'because', as well as commas in a list.
